There is a simple truth: a walk in the woods, the view from on top of a hill, or the sound of birdsong lifts our spirits. That’s why we’ve called our company ‘Alauda’ – the name of the skylark – because in that moment when we are absorbed by nature, we are regenerated.

The Covid-19 pandemic unexpectedly allowed many people to re-connect with nature. Whatever the future course of the pandemic, the challenge now is to ensure that everyone on the planet is able to experience the uplifting qualities of nature. That will be the true measure that we have succeeded in solving the twin climate and biodiversity crises which undermine the foundations on which human society is based.

The unprecedented global environmental change that we are now experiencing is driven almost entirely by human activities. Reversing that requires transformational change to the way we treat the planet. That’s what Alauda is for: supporting organisations to create a better future for people and the environment.

We do this by providing research and strategic insight into key sustainability issues associated with supply chains: deforestation and ecosystem conversion, biodiversity, policy and poverty. We work across sectors - companies, NGOs and policy makers – because solving complex problems requires collaboration.
