Founder.
Steve is a respected analytical and strategic thinker who has catalysed significant change in environmental and social impact across various sectors.
Steve started his career as a tropical rain forest ecologist. He began working in natural resource management policy, helping to create the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and catalysing the use of the ‘High Conservation Value Forest’ concept across numerous sectors.
He joined Oxfam after the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, working on international development and climate change adaptation. From 2011-2014 he led a department of 70 people that was responsible for technical advisory services, research, monitoring and evaluation, and publications.
Steve was a Partner at 3Keel from 2014 to 2021. He played a significant role in raising the profile and impact of 3Keel, through projects such as the ‘Risky Business’ series of reports, work on the ‘flexitarian transition’, analysis of the due diligence regulation on deforestation, and quantification of the UK’s global footprint. He also continued his strong interest in social inequality and the food system, through work on business structures that favour small-scale producers and analysis of what allows remote communities to recover more quickly after disasters. He played a leading role in innovation, such as the ForestMind consortium, which is developing a satellite-enabled supply chain deforestation monitoring service.
Steve founded Alauda Consulting in 2021 to pursue his commitment to bring about transformational change for the good of people and the environment.
